Walker Spotlight: Matt R.

January 28, 2019

We love our walkers at Windy City Paws, and this month we want to introduce to you to Matt, who has been with us for a year!

Where are you from?
A small town named Perkins in Oklahoma!

How did you end up in Chicago?
Moved here after meeting my girlfriend who grew up near here!

What is your favorite pastime?
Hmm. Video games. Yup, love me some video games! Oh and playing/making music!

What is your hidden talent?
I love to write. I write short stories and poems and I hope to publish one some day!

Do you have pets? If so, what kind and what are their names? Tell us about their personalities.
I do! I have a long haired Chihuahua named Lil Chi and she is my baby! She is quite protective of me, but once you give her food (her favorite thing in the world is to eat), she will maybe …juuuust maybe be your friend! She’s sassy, but a sweetheart!

If you were a dog, what breed would you be and why?
This is a hard question. But if I think about it..I really relate to my chihuahua. Stands their ground, shy but loyal to the end, quirky personality. I dig those traits!

If dogs could run for public office, which breed do you think would make the best president?
Oh goodness. Maybe a Husky as President and a Shiba Inu as Vice President? The most common dog is a lab though, so wouldn’t a lab win by majority vote if this was a democracy? (I’m overthinking this question way too much).

Why did you decide to become a dog walker?
I decided to be a dog walker because I am a bit of a loner and an animal person. I was sick of the office job 9 to 5 paperwork stuff and wanted a change!

What’s the weirdest thing about being a dog walker?
About 1/3 of my weekdays are spent watching dogs pee/poop.

What would people never guess is part of your job as a dog walker?
Actively avoiding other dogs while out on our walks. A safe doggo is a happy doggo!

What is your biggest pet peeve while walking dogs?
I have 2! One is people who are on their phones and NEVER look up or check on their dogs while walking them. The other is when another person walking their dog just assumes its okay to socialize without asking consent, first!

What’s the best part about being a dog walker?
The relationships you develop with all the dogs! You get to spend time with cute pups and get to know their personalities!
