As we enter into early Fall here in Chicago, there are still plenty of dog-friendly events for Chicagoans to attend that promise tail-wagging excitement and cherished memories. From Halloween parties to canine cruises, let’s dive into the pawsitively awesome dog-friendly events & activities happening in Chicago this year.
In recent years, dog DNA tests have gained significant popularity among pet owners, promising to unveil the hidden secrets locked within their beloved furry companions’ genetic makeup. These tests claim to provide insights into a dog’s breed composition, ancestry, and potential health risks. However, amidst the excitement, questions arise about the reliability and accuracy of these tests. Are dog DNA tests truly trustworthy, or are they mere pet-themed gimmicks? In this blog post, we will delve into the world of dog DNA testing and evaluate its reliability.
Our resident Windy City Paws mascot-in-training, Margot Flamingo, had their DNA tested and the results were interesting indeed! As you can see from their results, Margot is a mix of multiple breeds, each with their own unique characteristics that are blended together to make the cuteness that is Margot! However, there is some vagueness with the genetic makeup which is labeled as “Supermutt”, leaving over 9% a relative mystery with some possible breeds, but no definite answers.
That said, after learning which breeds are in Margot’s genetic history and how intelligent, energetic, and bark–prone these breeds can be, a few doggie puzzles helped to give Margot’s active brain something to do. Coupled with longer walks and more playtime at daycare, Margot was able to burn off that extra energy. Without the insight from the tests, it may have taken longer to figure out how to best address Margot’s needs.
